RING LOGO

The Ring Logo is a tradition that has been passed down for nearly a decade by the Ring Committee of each class year at MIT. The signature characteristics of the Ring Logo is that it must physically represent the MIT class ring, the Brass Rat, as well as contain the numbers each class's graduation year within the design.

I started with a physical representation of the Brass Rat and experimented with fitting the number 22 onto different faces of the ring. My concept was that the numbers should be subtle enough that they would not be the first thing a viewer notices, but prominent enough that they would be clearly seen. I decided to use the reflection of light across the surface of the ring to outline the number 22. From there, I experimented with different orientations of the Brass Rat, placing the numbers on different surfaces of the ring, the spacing between the lines, the colors, adding a gradient, and the curves and shapes of the slashed light on the ring. This graphic represents the chronological iteration of the logo.
